SHORE EXCURSIONS

Santa Barbara Fort & Town Plaza
Trujillo and its citizens were subject to frequent pirate attacks throughout the 17th and 18th Centuries. The Santa Bárbara Fort was constructed beginning around 1575 and provided protection for the town with its large cannons overlooking the Bay. The Fort is largely intact today and provides amazing vistas of the Caribbean Sea.

A town plaza and park are near the fort, as is the iconic San Juan Baptista Church.

Historic British, French, and U.S. consulates are within walking distance and provide interesting tour stops.

Township
Laid out on a grid, Trujillo and the Banana Coast provide easy walking tours and free activities for guests arriving at the cruise ship dock in the heart of the old colonial area. The town of 30,000 residents and its historical architecture, fort, plaza and beach are ideal for cruise visitors.

Prehistoric Caves & Hieroglyphs
Within reach of Banana Coast are caves with hieroglyphs pre-dating even the Mayan area. Anthropologists believe these caves and their writings date back to around 600 A.D.

Waterfalls and Hot Springs
With two large mountains behind the town and multiple rivers, the Banana Coast is home to perhaps more waterfalls than anywhere in the Americas!

Visitors can enjoy many activities, ranging from a simple photo op with a friend, all the way to whitewater rafting!

It is also home to wonderful, natural hot springs where visitors can bathe and leisurely enjoy healing, clear waters in a setting of the canopy forest.

Guaymoreto Lagoon Ecosystem
An undeveloped and untouched ecosystem lies right in our backyard: the Guaymoreto Lagoon features a mangrove ecosystem, and multitudes of birds, fish and other animals in a unique Central American habitat.

Snorkeling & Scuba
Snorkeling & Scuba activities abound for friends and family alike. The Bay is home to a Starfish Bank and also to high quality and undisturbed Caribbean coral reef.

The Beach
Banana Coast is regarded as having some of the finest natural beaches in the nation. Long, wide, sandy and swimmable beaches are found all along our coastline.
